Diamine Writer’s Blood – Charles Bukowski

Many congratulations to the Reddit Fountainpens community and Diamine Inks on the launch of Writer’s Blood this coming Friday. A fabulous new dark red ink and a great project to help bring to life. Thankyou again for involving me!

I have already posted a couple of articles about this project and will add the links to these at the end. But to celebrate the launch I wanted to do something that really got the essence of fountainpens and ink and what they have allowed us to do – and that is to express ourselves through words and imagery.

The one and only Charles Bukowski

To that end I decided to paint a portrait of a well known writer, showcasing the amazing tonal range, subtle sheen and bleach reactions of this brand new ink. As an avid reader I had to think really hard about who I felt, really grasped the nettle and wrote about real life in a style that was shocking, refreshing, immediate, honest and of the moment. Someone who wasn’t scared of censorship or criticism, someone who embraced the freedom of expression, someone who was just going to write about their life and their thoughts and damn the consequences. For me, that writer is Charles Bukowski and Writer’s Blood is the perfect name for an ink with which to immortalise him and I think this ink has done him proud. Writer’s Blood has got attitude!

Writer’s Blood – Go on! Get some!
