These are the artworks I created for the Inktober 2017 challenge. I really enjoyed doing these and just thought it would be fun to create a short video to showcase them in the concept context.
I based the concept around the original BBC TV Top of the Pops countdown graphics matching as near as the possible the original type shapes.
All of the artworks were created with standard, sheening and shimmer fountain pen inks with several created using my four colour mix set.
I keep bullet journals and often make notes on graphics that catch my eye so all of the images featured within the type shapes are from random scribbles and thoughts collected over the years.
The original theme tune was based on ‘Whole lotta love’ by Led Zeppelin who I’ve credited with numeral 5. The Jethro Tull/Led Zeppelin/James Last Orchestra mash up TOTP theme tune kind of became the subliminal soundtrack to the early 1970s. Certainly, every Thursday evening the Guilford House common room would be packed with ‘pop pickers’ eager to find out that week’s number one.
And who could forget the first time the group Imagination first appeared on TOTP? Just saying! Just saying!
I did post about the Inktober Challenge at the time. Here are the links:

And HEY! If you’re interested to know more about how to use fountain pen inks in more creative ways – whether it’s simply to observe their chromatic behaviours, or, to recreate one of my swatch cards, or, to learn how to use them in watercolour painting, illustration and calligraphy, why not check out my online course? It’s undeniably one of the best ways to pass the time while cocooned in your Covid 19 isolation inspiration station!
