Three Papier & Stift Diamine Exclusives

Anja at Papier & Stift has just released three brand new Diamine grey shading exclusives called: Lust For Write, Should I Type or Should I Write and Hey Ho Let’s Write. I think, homage maybe being paid to Iggy Pop, The Clash and Ramones.

Splats

To say that these three inks are good shading inks is without question, but to say that these are close in colour is an understatement. They are very close indeed. The clue is in the labels, Lust For Write is a blue grey, Should I Type or Should I Write is a Greeny Grey and Hey Ho Lets Write is somewhere in the middle. See the above blots made on Tomoe River paper and you’ll see what I mean.

Abstract 01

The abstract alphabets above, created on Bockingford HP paper,  demonstrate the shading attributes which I think you’ll agree are great but Should I Type (middle) and Hey Ho (right) are very similar. When I wrote with added water to the ink (see below) Lust definitely stands out but the other two are still too close for me to call.

So it comes down to the swatch cards and here I think you can see the subtleties between all three greys plus, of course, there’s lots of shading and chromo going on too.

Fairly recently, someone did ask about grey inks with a blue chromo and how there didn’t seem to many if any around. Well, here’s three! As mentioned, these are exclusive to Papier und Stift, so if interested, click here for the website.

Coming up: Anja at Papier und Stift has very kindly sent me vials for the complete Dominant Industry range which I will be showcasing along with samples of Fountain Wheel Press, Wearingeul, Diplomat, Taccia Jeans, Pennonia Lab and Teranishi throughout November, December and January. And yes, I have my Diamine Inkvent Calendar to share too!

AND HEY! If you’re interested to know more about how to use fountain pen inks in more creative ways – whether it’s simply to observe their chromatic behaviours, or, to recreate one of my swatch cards, or, to learn how to use them in watercolour painting, illustration and calligraphy, why not check out my online course ?
