Open Studio 2-9 July 2022

It’s been seven years since I started my investigation into fountain pen inks! So, as part of the Medway Open Studios & Arts Festival my studio will be open from Saturday 2nd until Saturday 9th July 2022. (10am-5pm).

My studio is at: 25 Davy Court, Rochester, ME1 1AE. Anyone wanting to come and visit please give me a call in advance on 07956 365155 so I can meet you at the gates.

My illustration and calligraphic work explores the chromatic qualities of fountain pen inks and bleach and the breadth of their creative and visual possibilities. A diverse range of work will be on show, some for sale, plus the opportunity to try it yourself.

As well examples of work and my collection of circa 2,000 swatch cards and ink vials from the last seven years, I will have fountain pen inks on display and for sale PLUS copies of my first ever self published book – a fountain pen ink illustrated collaboration with the poet Andy Taylor. It’s a signed limited edition of 100 copies. Click here for more information

The image of the ‘Grieving Cherub’ was created with Robert Oster Signature fountain pen ink and household bleach on Bockingford HP watercolour paper. The ink is called Bishop to King.

And HEY! If you’re interested to know more about how to use fountain pen inks in more creative ways – whether it’s simply to observe their chromatic behaviours, or, to recreate one of my swatch cards, or, to learn how to use them in watercolour painting, illustration and calligraphy, why not check out my online course or, even better, sign up for a workshop?
