Diamine Winter Miracle with Bleach

This is a more arty portrait of my daughter Daisy, using a heavy background of Diamine Winter Miracle on a 200lb rough textured Bockingford watercolour paper. The edges of the painting are more intense than the centre and as a consequence you can see that dull metallic green sheen and silver shimmer in evidence. I used a 70:30 mix of bleach: water and applied it with a No. 3 rigger brush and because of the increased solution strength the facial features have bleached out white. The turquoise spatters are created by flicking bleach and then blotting immediately with kitchen paper towel.

AND HEY! If you’re interested to know more about how to use fountain pen inks in more creative ways – whether it’s simply to observe their chromatic behaviours, or, to recreate one of my swatch cards, or, to learn how to use them in watercolour painting, illustration and calligraphy, why not check out my online course ?
