Another batch of ink samples from Ross at Pure Pens greeted me upon my return from holiday. And what a batch too. All of them are stunning colours:
Diamine Merlot – A thick dark rich ink that doesn’t bleed easily when added to water but does reduce a little at the breakdown. Turns a dull white gold colour when subjected to bleach. A rich purple colour when used for writing. Perfectly named as the colour is that of a Merlot wine.
Diamine Tyrian Purple – Another dark rich ink that doesn’t bleed easily when added to water but does reduce a little at the breakdown with hints of pink. Turns a dull white gold colour when subjected to bleach. A rich purple colour when used for writing.
Diamine Syrah – Just slightly more yellow that the Tyrian. Bleeds well when added to water with an even gradation of colour from the breakdown. Only reacts with bleach where the colour has been thinned by water. A lovely rich purple ink when used for writing. Aptly named after the wine.
Diamine Claret – Bleeds very easily when added to water and transforms from claret to a pinky purple at the breakdown. Turns a neon gold when subjected to bleach. A lovely purple colour when used for writing. Not sure if this is too pink to be called Claret?
Diamine Scarlet – Bleeds well when added to water and gradates into pinks at the breakdown. Turns a neon white/gold colour when subjected to bleach. A rich red colour when used for writing.
Diamine Cherise – Slightly brighter with hint of yellow when compared to the scarlet. Bleeds well when added to water and turns into pinks at the breakdown. Turns a neon white/gold colour when subjected to bleach. A bright pinky red ink when used for writing.
Diamine Poppy Red – Bleeds well when added to water with an even gradation of colour at the breakdown with hints of yellow at the edges. Turns a gold colour when subjected to bleach but only where the colour has been thinned by water . A lovely rich red ink when used for writing.
Diamine Coral – Bleeds easily when added to water and transforms from a fluorescent orange to dull pinks at the breakdown. Turns a stunning white neon gold when subjected to bleach. A lovely bright orange colour when used for writing. I like this.
I have used a heavy Bockingford watercolour paper with a rough texture.
