Nick Stewart’s CMYK Fountain Pen Ink Art Mix Set

In 2018 I launched my four colour fountain pen ink mix set. For the three years previous to that I had been deconstructing fountain inks to see if I could reimagine them as something other than just a handwriting fluid for fountain pens. To see if it might be possible to help them defy the onslaught of digital visual software and find them a new purpose within the analogue traditions as a bone fide art medium.

I continue to use them regularly – championing their ease of use and versatility. Whether using them for finished art or just quick studies, their vivid dye base colours allow for easy mixing that create clean secondary and tertiary colours that make artwork really ‘pop’!

And for those fine highlights, tiny amounts of bleach react sensitively with the dyes, elevating the artwork to greater levels of visual sophistication.
